In 1997, Loren and Dee Griffith began to clear brush from the overgrown property that would eventually become Ocean Suites Motel at 16045 Lower Harbor Road in Brookings, Oregon.
For the next two years, Loren worked seven days a week constructing the first eight motel suites, and Ocean Suites Motel was opened in the spring of 1999.
Loren and his son Don carried a reclining chair upstairs for the very first guest because he had back problems and brought his own chair. All our suites now have reclining chairs because that’s probably what you would have in your own home. Our goal is to be, “your home away from home.”
Through years of daily effort, Loren continued to expand the motel while Dee ran the office and oversaw housekeeping. Every two years a new expansion was completed.
By 2007 Ocean Suites Motel expanded to 24 units, the maximum that would fit on the property and still provide adequate parking for our guests. All suites were constructed as one-bedroom apartment-style vacation rentals.
Loren and Dee tried to anticipate all the needs of their guests, whether staying for one night or multiple months and stock the suites for maximum comfort and convenience.
In 2015, when Loren and Dee decided to retire, operation of the business was taken over by their son Don and his wife Susan. It is their goal to continue the legacy of cleanliness, comfort, and value that were established by Loren and Dee.
